What was the most difficult part of your reconstruction journey?
The most difficult part for me while going through the reconstruction was not wearing clothes that I liked. Because if I did, it would draw attention to the fact that I only had one boob or that they were uneven, or that they were fake, once the reconstruction was done. I still hid the scars, and I never knew where clothes were supposed to line up.
Was there anything you avoided because of how your chest looked after surgery?
I avoided everything. I stopped going out. I stopped caring about how I looked. I stopped taking care of myself. I didn’t feel attractive!
How would you describe your experience in my studio?
Coming to the studio was the best decision I ever made. Kelly made me feel seen heard. And beautiful again
If you could describe the moment you saw your restored areola in one word, what would it be—and why?
Utter shock and amazement at how real they looked and it was a major confidence booster. Now, I knew where my shirts were supposed to go to, and I knew how much cleavage was too much cleavage, and I was able to see my chest having real boobs again it was a confidence booster.I didn’t even know I needed at the time.
What does having your areola restored mean to you personally?
For me personally, I didn’t really care about having nipples at that point, but now that I have them, it gives me a confidence. And it makes me feel like I am a real woman again. I feel less butchered
At what point did you stop seeing cancer when you looked in the mirror?
When I got my nipples tattooed! I still see the scars, but with the nipples, I definitely feel more human again.
